Spring Break Survival for the Not-So-Faint-of-Heart

It is almost here.

There is no plan, but we will work it out as we go.

Gear up.

It has come.

Pick the children up with a smile and shout, "School's Out! ...For ten days!" Turn up the radio and have a treat at home.

Don't be nervous for long days without a schedule, comparisons to their friends who left on big vacations, Dad still has to work a lot, more food to stock up on, keeping everyone busy,
etc.

Make it through the initial first party and relax day.

The next few days begin to unfold. No schedule. Whining at job time (because it is coming twice as often).

Boys don't like to clean all day. Mom does.

Day four. Time to figure out a game plan. Boys chasing in circles. One with a sprained toe, two with bloody noses, three teasing the youngest brother, and four wishing that there was somewhere to go.

Refuge during a fun weekend trip.

Back home. Starting to get the hang of this no-school thing.

Jobs getting done once, mostly in the morning.

Scriptures, cooking, afternoon activity. Creative juices are flowing. Teach 'em to do this or that. Occasional squabbles but less blood.

Book reading quiet time and late night movies. Laughing together. Enjoying late morning wake up.

No more injuries, except from dog.

Day 9. Night before back to school. Sad to see it change again. They are leaving me. During the hours I have loved having them here, my little best buddies. Bottom line: IT IS NEVER LONG ENOUGH.

***But it wouldn't be real life without one more thing. When it gets too good and there is peace abounding, count on the whole family getting the flu. Pots in every room at every bedside.

Yep.

Day 10. School tomorrow?!

I forgot to mention that all this was done during the community Unplugged Month! The occasional late night movies were family highlights since they were in Mom and Dad's bed due to a family room tv that amazingly BROKE at the beginning of "unplugged."

WOW! You guys had a great time! Sorry about the puke pots. I think everyone has had some form or another his winter.

Yea for school today! Can't wait for summer.

I sent my boys back today and miss them terribly already. It stunk that it was so cold for our "spring" break, but we had a good time nonetheless.

Sorry to hear about everyone being sick. Glad there were some good memories mixed in there too :)!

Mindy you make me laugh! It makes me very happy to see that you use pots. I tried to once and Scott was absolutley disgusted that I would be sick in something we ate out of. I told him I thought that was normal, you just wash the pot really well afterward. He told me his family never ever did that...proof!

Oh this sounds so fun. We are just starting our spring break and the kids are enjoying staying up a little later and sleeping in a little more. The guitars unplugged sounds like a lot of fun, too. And wedding dress shopping, I'm jealous. Did you try any on just for fun? :)

I can totally relate! Especially to all the friends going to Disneyland or Mexico! I can read your blog now, and I'm glad to be back!
